Powermac 8500 root.bin probs

I am trying to install debian 2.2rev6 on a powermac 8500.  I can get the
boot-floppy-hfs.img to load fine but when i give it the root.bin disk i
start getting errors(about expecting a certain location but recieving
another) and then a kernel panic occurs.  Ideas?
