Boot problem: reboot

Hi,

I am trying to install  Debian/Linux 3.0
kernel 2.2.20-compact on a:
     Compaq DP 4000s 5233MMX 2100 DDM with
     160 Mbytes of memory and an M-Systems
     512 Mbyte flash disk.

The message gets to:
Loading linux.bin............... ready

then screen goes blank and it does a 
reboot and starts on the memory test.

I tried 
  boot: linux verbose 
and
  boot: linux debug
with the sema results.

Any ideas?  - Louis
