package: boot-floppies
version: quite recent
Dear sir/madam,
Today I tried to install debian on one of my
computers. Some IBM 100mhz pentium system. I planned to install the base system
trough the network. Everything (including the networkdriver) went fine till I
entered the gateway adresses, after "ok" the system crashed completely; the
monitor turned off for a few seconds, then there was a some reboot, but the
"beautiful" fullscreen blue IBM-logo was completely scrambled. The only way
to get a clean startup was to turn the system off and on again.
After that I restarted the installation, it said
that I allready configured the device drivers, so I went to the network
configuration, it only asked for a hostname and said I did have a network
device, so I got back to the device driver configuration, my network card wasn't
selected so I tried to install it again. Now it couldn't find the module! I
first thought that there was anything wrong with my networkcard (I didn't read
the errormessage very well), but then I realised I simply had to reinstall the
driverdisks, it helped! I installed the device driver again. And I started to
configure the network, but it crashed again after the gateway
configuration.
So I have 2 questions:
1. (most important) How to solve the system
crash?
2. I think it is not correct that I had to
reinstall the drivers after a reboot, I mounted the same harddisk, and the
program said I allready passed that stage so...?
I hope you can help me.
Thank you very much in advance,
Jelle van
