I'm not a sparc user. I see, though, that the 

disks-sparc/current/images-1.44/root.bin for 3.0.20 is indeed 1555k not 1440k.

I don't see a driver-1.bin in that folder; did you try the sun4u folder
images (which seem to be the proper size)?
