You should try from the woody boot-floppies, 3.0.19 or 3.0.20 if not
newer. Let us know if you are having a problem (file a bug against
boot-floppies, severity should be serious) and we will try to fix it
or find a workaround.
I've been able to use the woody boot-floppies to install on USB
keyboard i386 boxes so long as the "emulate legacy keyboard" bios
option is turned on. That should be documented if it's not already.
