Documentation: Invoking the BIOS Set-Up Menu

Hello:

I refer to "Installing Debian GNU/Linux 2.2 For Intel x86", version
2.2.16 dated 5 July 2000, section 3.3.1, "Invoking the BIOS Set-Up
Menu".

This section has information on how to enter different BIOS set-up
menus. My own "Hard Disk Upgrade Mini How-To", which is part of the
Linux Documentation Project, has information on more BIOSes. The latest
version of my Mini How-To is version 2.11, dated 13 April 2000.

For your convenience, here is the relevant information:

> You must also inform the BIOS of the disks' presence and of their
> "geometry". Usually, you enter the BIOS setup programme by pressing a
> key during the system boot-up. Here's what to do for some common BIOSes:
>
>         Acer notebooks: F2 key during Power-On Self-Test (POST)
>
> American Megatrends (AMI): Del key during Power-On Self-Test
>
>         Award: Del, or Ctrl-Alt-Esc
>
> Compaq: F10 key after the square appears in the top right corner
> of the screen during boot-up
>
>         Dell: Ctrl-Alt-Enter
>
>         DTK: Esc key during Power-On Self-Test
>
> Hewlett-Packard Pavilion: F1 key during HP blue splash screen
>
> IBM Aptiva 535: F1 while the square with the wavy lines is
> displayed in the upper right corner during power-on
> [Does this also apply to other Aptiva models?]
>
> IBM PS/2: Ctrl-Alt-Del, then Ctrl-Alt-Ins when the cursor is in
>         the top right corner
>
>         Mr. BIOS: Ctrl-Alt-S during Power-On Self-Test
>
> Packard Bell: For some models, F1 or F2 key during Power-On
>         Self-Test
>
>         Phoenix: Ctrl-Alt-Esc, or Ctrl-Alt-S, or Ctrl-Alt-Enter
>
> Many older systems require an Installation or Reference Disk.

Description:
 boot-floppies - Scripts to create the Debian installation system

Closes: 70036 88080 100357 101642
Changes:
 boot-floppies (3.0.7) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Adam Di Carlo
     - doc, i386: point to documentation on how to invoke more bioses
       closes: #88080
     - woody is going to be 3.0, rather than 2.3; bump package version for
       boot-floppies as well
     - dbootstrap: remove the options for installing potato or slink, since
       that's not really supported nor tested anyhow; default if quiet is
       always woody
     - powerpc: BootX and bootvars should be put in tools dir (which is
       /archive/debian/tools by default) rather than
       downloaded every time, current URLs are
        <URL:http://penguinppc.org/~benh/BootX_1.2.2.sit>
        <URL:ftp://top.cis.syr.edu/users/fadushin/bootvars/bootvars1.3b.sit.hqx>
     - debian/control: remove depends on linuxdoc-tools (powerpc only) and
       snarf (no longer needed)
   * Stephen R Marenka
     - use stable, testing, unstable, to report SUITE to base-config in
       dbootstrap_settings
       closes: #101642
   * Phil Blundell
     - arm root disk grows ever more bloated; bump it to 3400 blocks
     - reinstate RiscPC net driver modules that got lost at some point
     - use different module lists for each arm subarch, and improve
       error checking
   * Ethan Benson
     - enable `Edit Kernel Boot Paramaters' for powerpc
     - add support to run_plilo_quik() for additional kernel paramaters
     - add support to run_plilo_yaboot() for additional kernel paramaters
       (requires yaboot >= 1.2.1-1.2.2-1)
     - only check for root being on the first disk if we are dealing with IDE,
       its not necessary for scsi
     - remove woody.debs and sid.debs from rootdisk again, debootstrap no longer
       contains them.
     - Add --arch ARCHNAME to debootstrap's arguments, this way debootstrap
       no longer needs /usr/lib/debootstrap/arch.
     - Remove /usr/lib/debootstrap/arch from rootdisk.
   * Matt Kraai
     - ifconfig down static interfaces to clear old gateway information
       closes: #100357
     - abort pcmcia configuration entirely if the user chooses cancel
       closes: #70036
   * Chris Tillman
     - heavy updates to the Installation Manual for woody and better
       reorganization
