This seems like some sort of syslinux issue.  What are you booting
from ?  Potato CDs?  Which flavor (cds #1 and cd #2 are bootable, soon
3 and 4 will be too)?  Which versoin of the boot-floppies was used to
create the CD?  (YOu'll see a version note on the syslinux screen taht
first comes up).
