d-i floppy image?

Is the d-i floppy supposed to boot? with the current kernel
image it hand on the following system after it said
VFS: root ext2...

No error messages, it just hangs there.

cpu: p-ii 300mhz
ram: pci100 128mb
mobo: tomato lx (iirc)
hd: ide 4gb quantum fireball udma 33 (i guess)
video: s3 trio 64v+
nic: 3com 905/c

any ideas why kernel might have crashed?

i'm going to try my 2.4.1 image for the same box now.
