Please include what is reported as 'fdisk -l', and what the kernel
reports as the partitons during the boot sequence.
Also include what kernel you are using -- do 'uname -a'n
I believe you are bit by a problem where *bsd slice support is a
little messed up. Have you tried the idepci flaovr of boot-floppies
on http://people.debian.org/~aph/current/ ?
