Install failure using floppies on _old_ machine

Dear All,

I have inherited a couple of old 486 machines and I am trying to make
them useful by installing potato on them. I am using the current boot
disks (v ...17?). I have already used the same disks to install on
another different box.

The rescue floppy gets as far as printing the message

   md driver 0.36.6 MAX_MD_DEV=4, MAX_REAL=8

and stops.

What is the install doing at this stage? Is there any known
problem fix?

The machine was made by "DAN" and dates from 1993 if this helps.

Thanks

Dave
