Further to this, when I retried loading the drivers from
the correctly imaged floppies, it went ok, until it tried
to access the modules it had unpacked. The was an
error message "too many symlinks". It turned out
that /target/lib/modules was a symlink to itself, and
there was a directory, modules.old which actually contained
the modules.
