Sorry bug I think I found another bug booting from the CD on potato. This
is still version 2.2.12 and was built on 2000-04-23 by Randolph Chung. When
installing and you try to configure the modules it comes up with an error
when you try to load one that says:

Can not install modules /target/etc/modules.conf

I looked and the file does not exist in that directory. It does exist in
the ramdisk under /etc/ but not under target.
