Subject: Reboot menu item for installation programme hangs rather than
 rebooting
Message-ID: <Pine.LNX.4.21.0004011540080.18332-100000@localhost>
MIME-Version: 1.0

Package: boot-floppies
Version: 2.2.9

I assume this is an error in the boot-floppies package. The bad behaviour
was obtained using the download version (as of 26 March) of the boot and
root diskette images for the frozen Debian distribution. The error concerns
the the menu item for reboot that occurs at the end of the initial install
right after making a boot disk. When I hit this menu item the first time I
got what I think is the start of the usual message stream about the system
being taken down and the remarks about various processes being stopped, but
the message stream (sorry I did not preserve exactly where, but it was near
the start of the usual stream) hung part way through, and I got no further
messages or action. I could still use the menu so I hit reboot a second
time, and there was no message stream at all that time.

The workaround was to hit the usual ctrl-alt-delete combination for
rebooting. With my full Debian system since, I have never had any further
trouble rebooting with shutdown -r now (or ctrl-alt-del in a console window,
for that matter). This may not be relevant, but to give full information on
this, I have an ASUS K7M ATX-style motherboard running an Athlon.

Other information:

uname -a
Linux starling 2.2.14 #1 Sun Jan 16 13:48:57 EST 2000 i686 unknown
ls -l /lib/libc.so.6
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           13 Mar 27 17:38 /lib/libc.so.6 -> libc-2.1.3.so*

This is really a minor bug with an obvious workaround, but nevertheless it
would be nice to get the reboot menu item working correctly for the
install.

We believe the bug you reported was fixed in boot-floppies released
version as of 19 April. Therefore they should be fixed as of
boot-floppies 2.2.12.
