package: dbootstrap?
version: debian 2.1 (O'Reilly CD-Rom)

during the bootup process (moments) before arriving at the first user
screen for the installation (color or monochrome) the machine hangs,
specifically immediately after displaying "ncr53c406a" not found. (I
initially assumed that problem was the scsi controll which i had
identified as an Adaptec AHA-294X/AHA-394X, however as that same error
message appeared on my non-scsi workstation prior to recompiling the
kernel, I can only say that whatever is freezing it solid is probably
the next thing that it is trying to load or my scsi device is
incompatable -- I can't find it listed in the hardware incompatablity
list nor the hardwar compatable list).
  I am really not sure what I should try next-- a) attempt to pass of to
the boot: parameter that the scsi is an aic7xxx; b) try a different
debian release, unstable or an old 2.0; c) try a clunky Caldera 2.3
install disk; d) abandon all hope because I have incompatible hardware;
e) or more likely, something I can't think of.

Wow, I'm pleased it worked for your hardware properly.

Thanks for your bug report, I am going to mark it closed since it
seems to be fixed by the kernels we use in potato.
