Bug#60855: Can't tell which button is selected and which is not

Package: boot-floppies
Version: 2.2.8

I (and a couple others) have commented on the difficulty of telling which button is selected and which is not in the install. This is for any screen in the early installation phase which presents 2 buttons and asks for a choice. The problem occurs in color, and even more so in black and white. My install was in B+W for some reason (really a separate issue, I know)--all previous ones have been in color. I don't see a formal bug on the problem, so here one is.

Though this is "only" cosmetic it's pretty important, and affects a lot of the screens in the install.

Here's the relevant part of an earlier report I made to the debian-boot list:
Boot off of floppy.
Screen now has a very noticeable flicker, and is black and white (and grey). I later discover that I can switch it to color by switching virtual consoles and coming back. The initial screen has a scroll-bar, but no scrolling. It does not appear there is any missing text below the screen. A more serious problem is that it is very hard to tell which of 2 buttons is selected--in fact, I got this wrong. The one which is highlighted (white) is the one NOT selected. The other button does have a flashing cursor on it. Things are not much clearer in color. I strongly recommend clarifying this (e.g.,a message that "blue" buttons are selected--except it might have been red).

There were also some possible solutions mentioned on the list; one I recall involved manipulating the background color to be the same as the unselected buttons. Another possibility is adding a gratuitous button!
