Bug#60574: install fails with "Error writing /target/etc/fstab"

Package: base
Version: current

I have a sony picturebook (viao pcg-c1x)
and I'm trying to install debian onto some of it's disk. As it only
has a usb floppy, I'm using the "install from a dos partition" method.
I go through the installer, using the defaults, and it get's to the
point were is tries to write the base system. then it says
"error writing /target/etc/fstab"
VC 3 has a somewhat more informative error:
init: started. Waiting for process 6.
executing etc/rc
pid 12 exite, status=0
exacuting sbin/dbootstrap
pid 15 exited, status 1.
pid 13 exited, status 1.
/target/bin/sed: 1: Syntax error: word unexpected (expecting ")")

if I nose around VC 2, I find that /target/etc/fstab is create, and
looks correct. I wanted to try with the latest disks, but
ftp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/dists/unstable/main/disks-i386/
was empty.
