Bug#58650: Unable to install in Compaq computer

Package: boot-floppies
Version: downloaded
architecture: i386
model: Compaq
memory: 256MB
scsi: None
cd-rom: ATAPI dvd (Compaq DVD-114) and cd-rw (LG CD-RW CED-8042B)
network card:	Accton EN1207D PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter
pcmcia: None

I was trying to install Debian Linux in my system (currently has W98). I
tried both booting the installation system from the hard drive with
install.bat, and from floppy and I get the same result. The linux kernel
loads, recognizes memory, IDE hard drives, cdroms, and then hangs. The
following are the last four kernel messages:

FDC 0 is a post-1991 82077
md driver 0.36.3 MAX_MD_DEV=4, MAX_REAL=8
sym53c416.c: Version 1.0.0
DC390: 0 adapters found

I get identical results whether I boot from hard disk or floppy. Also,
adding a boot command mem=256M makes no difference.

Thank you for your time. Please email me with any questions.
