2.2.7 verbose mode still looping

Installing the feb10 2.2.7 build from harddisk,
in verbose mode with new ext2 features enabled,
using the compact flavour.

Well, Id "1" is not respawning anymore.  :)

After rebooting into the second stage this is getting sent to the
screen...
/var/lib/dpkg/info/base-config.config: /tmp/keybd_settings:: No such file or directory

Top shows...

perl -w /usr/sbin/dpkg-reconfigure base-config
(the PID changes periodically, but the process is always there)

(the following show up now and then, top can not update its display fast
enough, always with a larger PID than the above but I cannot determine
the ordering)

sh -e /var/lib/dpkg/info/base-config.config reconfigure 0.16
dpkg --status base-config
sh -c stty -a </dev/tty
base-configure.con <defunct>


Any ideas on how to get a decent snapshot of what is happening?
