Bug#53565: Install documentation

Package: boot-floppies
version: 12/20/99

Chapter 5, p 22 says "The different choices are described in .. on this page"
They are not described on that page. It would be good to have a page and
section reference in addition to the title of the section where they are
discussed.

p 23 , section 5.1.1 last sentence reads
This method is described in 'Installing from a Hard Disk' on the page before.
The page before has no such heading, and provides no such description.

Although p. 22 says that the first boot is described in its own section
[which is actually a chapter], there is no discussion of the install from
hard disk there.

More generally, I think the separation of the two chapters (5 + 6) and the
sequencing of material between them is unfortunate. Why should the first
step be to skip ahead to chapter 6, only to later return to chapter 5?
Just put things in the order that someone doing an install would have to
make decisions and carry out actions.

The instructions are obviously out of date with respect to the evolving
structure of boot floppies and files; for example, they refer to a single
drivers diskette.

I also vote with others who say the material on adding boot-time parameters
needs to clarify that you must say "default" (or linux or ...) before, for
example, hd=cyl/head/sector. This point tripped me up in the past.

A note on how much to worry about drive geometry would be good; my disk has
been "too large" and needed that assist with previous versions, and I don't
know if that continues to be the case.
