Bug#53540: 3c509 module error (fwd)

Package: base
Version: current

I downloaded the floppy images from your ftp site (ftp.debian.org in
/debian/dists/slink/main/disks-i386/current/) yesterday, for the current
(2.0.38?) release of Debian. The installation and configuration went OK,
except that I get an error when I try to configure the network card. I
have a 3c509, which I have used with previous versions of slakware Linux
through many kernel upgrades without problem. But when I select the 3c509
to install the module, I get an error that a symbol (io) in the .o file is
not found, and it cannot install it.

I am certain that the system is otherwise properly configured, since when
I switch to a different network card (an NE-2000 clone), modconf works
properly when configuring the card, and the networking features work.

Can you tell me how to fix this problem? I'd really rather not have to
re-install the system from scratch.
