The mismatch between image and md5 files was due by me to mount the image using
the loopback device after I generated the md5 but before I generated the
.changes file (in effect, mount changes the status infos in ext2fs bootblock of
the image if it is not mounted read-only).
I was not immediately aware of this problem because dinstall (the ftp
maintenance process) was happy with a correct .changes file.
Anyhow, I downloaded this file a while ago and compared it to my backup: they
match except few bytes. Moreover, filesystem contents are the same.

Are you using the same set of images (i.e. resc1440.bin along with
drv1440.bin) ? Otherwise I don't know what the problem is.
Could you give me more informations ? On what system do you try to install
Debian ? At which point the installer is failing ? ...

Thanks in advance.
