pcmcia can't work after install kernel 2.2.10?
Hi, Friends:
I have installed the Debian 2.1 into my Toshiba satellite 2520CDT
with one DE-660 network pc-card and one 33.4 kbps
modem pc-card, I've just upgrade kernel from 2.0.36 to 2.2.10, and
re-install pcmcia source" pcmcia-source_3.0.14-2.deb"
but after all, I found my network pc-card(DE-660) can't work, thought I
do hear "Be Be" sounds during boot time, but it
sounds like different then before. Following messages I saw as I use
"lsmod" before new kernel installed and after new kernel
and pcmcia source installed :
=== "lsmod" at kernel 2.0.36 installed ===
Module Pages Used by

psaux 1 1 (autoclean)

i82365 5 2
pcmcia_core 9 [serial_cs pcnet_cs ds i82365] 0

ds 6144 2 [memory_cs]
i82365 23484 2
pcmcia_core 42456 0 [memory_cs ds i82365]
As I just close my lap-top's display panel to make my lap-top into
suspend mode, after few hours later, I came back to
work with it, when I open my lap-top's display panel, and power resumed,
I heard "Be Be" sounds again( sound like as the old kernrl installed),
following messages as I typed "lsmod" once again:
Module Size Used by
serial_cs 3892 0 (unused)
pcnet_cs 7840 1
8390 6332 0 [pcnet_cs]
ds 6144 2 [serial_cs pcnet_cs]
i82365 23484 2
pcmcia_core 42456 0 [serial_cs pcnet_cs ds i82365]
My network pc-card came back to work again, thought I still can't figure
what did it mean "serial_cs.......(unused)" and
why didn't show the "serial ...... (autoclean)" just like the old kernel
installed. Besides, I noticed that "memory_cs....(unused)"
disappeared( I don't know what this module is , and why did I make it as
modules). I tried to restart my pcmcia by typed
"./pcmcia restart" in /etc/init.d, the strange "Be Be.." sounds came
back again, and "lsmod" turned back as I just boot my
lap-top, so did my network die again.
Following message I found before/after the new kernel and pcmcia
installed by type"dmesg|more"
=== "dmesg|more" at kernel 2.0.36 installed ===

I noticed that I have just download the early version pcmcia
cource(3.0.14-2), and there are several messages
that different from before, e.g. the Intel PCIC probe the different
pcmcia controler, the cs: memory probe are different,
too. What should I have to do, now? I'm novice of Linux, does someone
can tell me should I re-install the newer
version of pcmcia source(3.0.5)? or just modify something to make it
back to O.K.? Should I have to un-install
the pcmcia 3.0.14-2 before I install 3.0.5? How to un-install( can I
just run "rm -r /lib/module/2.2.10/pcmcia" for un-
installing the pcmcia 3.0.14-2)?
I must say sorry for this "very, very-long" e-mail, and thank anyone
who read it completely. If people who has tired for
answering all these questions, I hope you can tell me which docmuments
should I read( I've got the pcmcia-HOWTO, and
read it rightnow..), thanks all!
