rootdisk/generate_library problems

I'm working some changes so that boot-floppies will work for PReP PowerPC
machines.  With some changes to allow for a serial console machine build,
I've managed to create a root image.  However, my libc and libslang
become so
mangled that it can't exec /sbin/init without me replacing those libraries
with the fully bloated ones.

I was wondering if anybody else is having trouble like this with the
trimmed libraries?  I would think that this would be a generic problem
rather than PPC specific...oh well, back to debugging mode...
