add switches for serial console, for a serial console bug, and for
whether the rescue disk needs also to have a root disk (only SPARC is
this way, but I might be wrong??)
correct the number of base floppies for *all* architectures, breaking
out the exceptions for sparc and powerpc which need 8 floppies instead
of 7
