Update on that problem: I've tried a few things and I get as far as
generating
a non-empty libc6 but on booting that ramdisk ld.so complains about
unresolved
the symbol __libc_global_ctors and dies.  

Entertaining enough, the base system built with the new libc is also
shot: all console ttys complain about 'illegal seek' and the logins die. 

Any hints? I think I'm going to dig out my old glibc-2.0.7v-1 rather than
working on arcane libc tricks ... 

Any optinions?
