Compiling kernel packages.

Hi, not exactly sure which list this message should of been sent to so I figured I'd post here since this list pertains to what I'm trying to do most.

I'm trying to make a set of boot floppies with a special kernel and to do this I need to make debian packages out of the different kernels.
I patched the default kernel-source-2.2.17 package with my special patch and then compressed it again so that when the kernel source packages when to extract the kernel the patch would be allready applied.
The problem I'm having is when I try to make a binary package from the source package kernel-image-2.2.17 which generates kernel-image-2.2.17, kernel-headers-2.2.17 and kernel-images-2.2.17-ide.
The build process works fine until it gets to the package kernel-2.2.17-ide and when it does the make config on the kernel it doesn't answer all of the questions and I want to keep the kernel as close to the default kernel as I can so that that module problems will happen.
Is there another package I need to install to build this package?
The compact and idepci packages build fine with the setup.
Thanks.
