Debian Med and Debian Science are OK with the patch, however:

   gbp clone ssh://git.debian.org/git/debian-edu/debian-edu.git
   cd debian-edu
   make dist
   grep '\\' debian/control | head
Suggests: \ cpqarrayd,
 \ isag,
 \ lshw,
Suggests: \ gnome-accessibility-themes,
Suggests: \ kde-full,
 \ kdeaccessibility,
 \ kdegraphics-thumbnailers,
 \ kdf,
 \ kfloppy,
 \ kinfocenter,

So for some reason in the Debian Edu case '\' signs will not be
ignored but added to the d/control file.

So I confirm that the first problem we detected is solved but there is
another one breaking Debian Edu. I have again no suspicion why the '\'
sign is not elimiunated from the list only in those few cases.

Kind regards

    Andreas.
