I've imported the patch here:
  https://salsa.debian.org/sten-guest/xorg-server/tree/debian-stretch

and have begun testing.  I'm not sure if it's relevant, but the value
of my testing might be lower than someone running a simple stretch+MESA
18 bpo, because I'm running a custom upstream linux-4.14.x.

So far, I have not observed new bugs on i915 haswell, relative to
official stable-updates xorg-xserver-core + backported MESA 17.

If anyone would like me to upload these unofficial unreleased packages
with a gpg signed changes somewhere, please let me know.
