backport of firefox as alternative to firefox-esr

Hello!
I assumed that there would be a package "firefox" besides the package "firefox-esr" in stable (Debian9, stretch), at least in the backports repository, and this package would then become frequently updated in order to mirror the frequent security relevant browser updates (besides new features) implemented upstream. This assumption is motivated by considering the browser nowadays often being a central tool in the everyday work on a Linux desktop system.
I am surprised, besides not finding a more or less updated firefox package as a backport to not even find an up-to-date firefox package in the testing/buster branch. I could only help myself and install firefox as a snap package into Debian9 stable "stretch", for currently gaining access to Firefox 61 instead of Firefox-ESR 52, bridging truly a big gap! Or I could install it manually, without the help of a repository, as described here: https://wiki.debian.org/Firefox , but wouldn't know about package dependencies myself. I finally could sadly move to some other conservative, stable Linux distribution, like openSUSE Leap (providing Firefox 60, righ now). Well, I would prefer to stay with Debian, but without a recent Firefox browser in the repository (available other than in branch sid) it excludes itself as a desktop Linux system these days.
Is there a reason, other than missing manpower, for not having an up-to-date firefox version in Debian "stable" or Debian "testing" branches?
Thanks!
