Is it really a big exception?

The package is in Stretch, and therefore seems to satisfy the
requirement of presence in version+1.

As I understand it, backporting OpenSSL 1.1.0, which would seem to be
the alternative, has wider ranging consequences:

OpenSSL 1.0.2, on the other hand, seems to work as mostly a drop-in
replacement for 1.0.1, without severe consequences, at least with the
modifications that he proposes.
