Hi,just confirmed that kodi compiled from source (according to http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Compile_Kodi_for_Debian_or_Ubuntu with a little help from http://www.penzin.net/kodi.html) *does* show images served by minidlna. So I guess it really is a Debian (backports?) issu.
