RFS: rgbpaint (squeeze-backports)

Dear developers,

I would like to see the package "rgbpaint" examined
as being suitable for inclusion in squeeze-backports.
The package is maintained by myself in the regular
distribution and entered there only this spring,
in spite of the software being some years old.

Before the packaging work begun in November,
preliminary interest was expressed by Debian Edu
as to the suitability of this program, but due
to the frozen state of Debian testing, it was
admitted that the package would not make it
for the original Debian 6.0.

In the few weeks of availability, the popcon
poll registers some thirty installs of this
binary package.

The executable is a painting program intended for
an audience wanting a tool with capabilities
between those of "mtpaint" and of "tuxpaint".
In this sense "rgbpaint" is a simplification
of "mtpaint", but it is not a toy like "tuxpaint",
yet is fully usable by younger people as well as
by grown up persons seeking a less complex application.

Below this message the original ITP-description
is included for better reference.

For your access the package has been deposited at

  http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/r/rgbpaint

where the description file is

Description : A pixel based painting program
  X-Ubuntu-Description : A very basic painting program

Rgbpaint is a simplified painting program, derived from Mtpaint by
the same authors. It can edit and save only RGB images in PNG, JPEG,
and ICO file formats. Depending in the installed version of GTK+2,
the program can read file formats PNG, JPEG, TIFF, GIF, ICO, and
possibly also others like TGA, PCX, and SVG.

The program was originally aimed at the initiative OLPC, and it
works well with the Sugar desktop environment.

Rgbpaint needs GTK+2, but the use of the GtkPixbuf facilities
reduces the dependency on image libraries.
