I have a similar card based on the 200M ATI/AMD chip. If installing
the firmware packages (nonfree) doesn't work then you could check for
this, but I don't know if it will help:

I don't know how the backport of 2.6.32 was made, but in squeeze's
kernel, Kernel-Mode setting (KMS) for radeon cards is enabled by
default (this can be found in /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf)

I don't think this old radeon driver 6.9.0 can handle KMS, so if you
find this file, edit it and set it as: options radeon modeset=0

Reboot your computer and you should be using User-Mode setting (UMS)
which was supported then.

Also, my card never had any 3D acceleration capabilities in Lenny with
the open source driver. But we have slightly different models.

Hope this helps,

Andres
