It works well enough (although I noticed printing doesn't work), easy to do and
it doesn't mess your system.

There is also GNOME 2.16 and GNOME 2.18 backports: (although they would be
overkill for running Firefox)

I'm using the 2.18 backport and it works well. But I think upgrading only gtk
doesn't work well, I remember I've tried to install just evince and its
dependencies from 2.16 repo, and it ruined my desktop.
