It's clear to go for every other architecture: http://qa.debian.org/excuses.php?package=git-core I don't see the need to wait for hppa to provide a backport that is _very_ useful for alioth and a lot of users that benefit from remote branch tracking and other nifty features it brings with it. FWIW git-core passed through bpo's NEW queue, so I assume that if it was a problem, bpo ftp-masters would have told me so.
