odd issue with linux-image-2.6.18-4

I just updated a couple of my servers that do a lot of setuid calls to
linux-image-2.6.18-4-686. They are web servers that use suexec to
execute user cgi/php scripts. At first, everything went pretty
swimmingly with no problems but after about 8 or 9 hours of uptime, I
would no longer to be able to setuid nobody on the servers. Any
programs that tries to setuid nobody would fail. Setuid as any other
user would work fine. If I change the numerical uid of nobody, I
could setuid nobody fine. It's extremely odd and only happens with
the 2.6.18-4 series kernel.

Any ideas? I looked through the changelogs but didn't see anything
that might cause this. Identical servers still running the 2.6.16-2
series kernel from backports do not have this problem.
