lilo replaces GRUB when installing new kernel



my current kernel is 2.6.8-2-k7, the original sarge dvd1

apt-get install linux-image-2.6.16-2-k7
gives the following output

i chose to not continue
the problem is that installing the newer kernel replaces lilo with GRUB

is this supposed to happen, i don't want to change GRUB for lilo
