Compared with the bugs of linux-2.6 and the EIP, it seems its related to bugs:

#386497, #380188, #383264 (which all the same I guess)

I think it's related to serial console (which is attached and configured here 
too)

Interesting is, that this doesn't happen with a stock 2.6.17.13 with 
genpatches-2.6.17-10 and hardened-patches-2.6.17-4 (both gentoo patchsets) on 
nearly identical installation and serial console. Strange.
