arm64/aarch64 graphical debian-installer

Hello all,

building an installable aarch64 live ISO with live-build produces perfectly working images. They boot flawlessly into an X11 session without any issues whatsoever.

But as soon as the debian-installer is booted, it unfortunately defaults to the newt frontend and, adding insult to injury, always only on the serial console.

While using DEBIAN_FRONTEND=gtk to force the graphical frontend seemingly works, any existing preseed.cfg is silently ignored (see bug 1116551).

Then again, the official Debian installation ISO's for arm64/aarch64 seem to work perfectly fine using the graphical installer. So, not only in theory, there doesn't seem to be any blocker to use the graphical installer frontend for arm64/aarch64.

But what is the trick to actually enable it besides the buggy DEBIAN_FRONTEND=gtk parameter?

What is the elusive switch for which no trace can be found in the documentation?

Can someone please enlighten me about how to enable the graphical installer with arm64/aarch6?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Regards,
Paul
