Looking again, spi is probably the more sensible option compared to PWM.You need to modify the device tree to enable the spi controller, maybe adapt the pinctrl properties and create a device with the right chipselect.
In the end the optimum would be to do that using an overlay, getting there isn't trivial for someone who never worked with devicetrees before though.
Which kernel version are you using (Trixie/testing would be easier than bookworm)?I am using bookworm. Specifically, the download link is [1].
With the bookworm kernel an overlay is also possible, but more complex and easier to break with a kernel update.
I have not tried Trixie because there is a "p400" value in the "Tested hardware" column. > I just realized that I might have used the wrong image for my board. I suspect that I use a raspi3 image for my raspi4, because I have both boards.
The main difference between the images is only "32-bit ARM" and "64-bit ARM". All rpis can run (IIRC) the 32-bit variant. If you have a 64bit capable rpi I'd recommend the 64-bit image. And just because it was tested on p400 doesn't mean it won't run on a "normal" rpi.
Best regards Uwe
