will an armel install on a x86_64 machine bork ???

Hi
If I use a install CD for ARMEL on this machine, which is x86_64, will
it write a OS on a drive thats plugged in, or will it see the wrong
processor and bork out ??, thats of course if the deb installer will
see USB drives that are plugged in.
