Just to be sure I have done two fresh u-boot builds today, but the the
behaviour stays exactly the same, both with

- U-Boot 2014.04-10649-gd9fe0a1 (built from the sunxi branch of
  https://github.com/linux-sunxi/u-boot-sunxi)

- U-Boot 2014.04-01501-ga061c54 (built from the sunxi-next branch of
  https://github.com/jwrdegoede/u-boot-sunxi)

Setting fdt_high and initrd_high results in properly booting kernels
in both cases.
