Well I have used the mac/win drivers for a printer before through cups
to a usb printer on another device.  Cups simply recognized the input as
being raw data for the printer and did no processing of it and simply
sent it to the printer.

This does not in any way involve emulating a usb port across the network
or anything like that.

Of course you do NOT get to use any status monitoring or such, but well
you can't have everything.  Network printers usually don't do that
stuff.
