Looks like the old "shared library built without -fPIC" problem.  Use objdump 
--dynamic-relocs and go hunting for R_ARM_PC24 in shared objects.

I think Jim built gmp with a correctly-installed compiler and it was OK.  
Dunno if he uploaded the packages or not.
