Is apache running or not?

Hello,
Please I need some help with this. I'm trying to restart apache and
this is what I'm getting.

debian:~# /etc/init.d/apache2 start
Starting web server: Apache2.
debian:~# /etc/init.d/apache2 reload
Reloading web server config...done.
debian:~# /etc/init.d/apache2 restart
Forcing reload of web server: Apache2 ... no pidfile found! not
running?httpd (pid 1704) already running
.
debian:~#
root 1704 0.5 1.7 12672 4596 ? Ss 01:54 0:00
/usr/sbin/apache2 -k start -DSSL
www-data 1705 0.0 1.7 12672 4620 ? S 01:54 0:00
/usr/sbin/apache2 -k start -DSSL
www-data 1706 0.5 1.7 12672 4620 ? S 01:54 0:00
/usr/sbin/apache2 -k start -DSSL
www-data 1707 0.0 1.7 12672 4620 ? S 01:54 0:00
/usr/sbin/apache2 -k start -DSSL
www-data 1708 0.0 1.7 12672 4620 ? S 01:54 0:00
/usr/sbin/apache2 -k start -DSSL
www-data 1709 0.0 1.7 12672 4620 ? S 01:54 0:00
/usr/sbin/apache2 -k start -DSSL

I can not understand it. Does anyone know why I can not restart it?
I've tried to remove apache, remove the /etc/init.d/apache2 file but
when I try to reinstall it there's no file in /etc/init.d called
apache2.

I don't know what to do..

Thanks very much.

Maria
