Bug#232954: apache2-common: problems with the default start page

I don't think I have touched my configuration, just installed the packages.
When I enter localhost in my browser, I see a directory headed
"Index of /"
with two directory entries in it:
apache2-default
docbook-dsssl
If I click on apache2-default I see a more usual unconfigured Apache
start page (this is what I saw when I typed in localhost with 2.0.47):
"If you can see this, it mean that the installation of the Apache web
server software on this system was successful....."
On that page, if I click on the "documentation" link I get
Not Found
The requested URL /apache2-default/manual/ was not found on this
server.
When I clicked on that link in 2.0.47 I got a cryptic bunch of html
headers listing different language types.
I have apach2-doc installed, and it looks as if things should work.
/etc/apache2/conf.d/apache2-doc is present and begins
Alias /manual/ "/usr/share/doc/apache2-doc/manual/"
<Directory "/usr/share/doc/apache2-doc/manual">
Oh, I guess the problem at the second step is that it's looking for
apache2-default/manual instead of manual.
If I enter http://localhost/manual/ I get the error I saw in 2.0.47:
