PS.  This is the inetd.conf line I use:

https           stream tcp      nowait.180      root  /usr/sbin/tcpd /usr/sbin/apache

It has worked fine for about a year.

In httpd.conf I have:
# ServerType is either inetd, or standalone.


ServerType inetd
