Jose,

Debian amd64 has a processing speed advantage in beingable to use more registers, reducing the amount of datathat has to be shuffled between registers and cache duringexecution. There are other architectural advantages, too.Obviously, the OS takes pretty full advantage of thisinternally. However, a lot of the 64-bit stuff is usedonly by programs that are written for a 64-bit platform,afaik.

What are the main advantages of debian amd64 compared to i386 debian besides to address more than 4GB of memory?

The standard Debian 6.0 kernel image of i386 has already been compiled with SMP-alternatives support.

Are there differences in processing speed between them?
