Is this Debian Iceweasel or the official Firefox build?  See below for
why this matters.  If it's the latter, does Iceweasel work okay?

Does Opera use the default certificate store?  The root certificate for
alioth is from the SPI certification authority.  If you don't use the
Debian certificate store, then obviously it will not permit SPI-signed
certificates, since they're almost certainly not in the default store.
