In pseudo code:

mdadm --fail /dev/md0 /dev/sda1
mdadm --remove /dev/md0 /dev/sda1
mdadm --create -l1 -n2 /dev/md1 /dev/sda1 missing
mke2fs -j /dev/md1
mount /dev/md1 /mnt
cp -ax / /mnt
chroot /mnt gerub-install (or lilo)

No need to reinstall if you can risk your data for a while.
